The space under solar panels is warm, dry and sheltered, which makes it prime real estate for squirrels and pigeons. Once they move in, they bring nests, leaves and droppings that trap water on your roof, and squirrels chew wiring, which can cut production or create a fire risk. Ecogen’s critter guard service fixes the problem and keeps it fixed. We clean out the nests and debris, inspect and repair any wire damage with our licensed electricians, and install a galvanized mesh guard around the edge of the array so pests can’t get back underneath. The mesh clips to the panel frames, so there’s no drilling into the panels. Before we leave, we check the system is producing normally. Hearing scratching on the roof? Start with the Fix My Solar form and add a photo if you can.

Questions homeowners ask

How do I know if I have critters under my panels?

Common signs are scratching or cooing on the roof, nesting material or droppings around the edges, and a drop in production from chewed wires.

Will a critter guard damage my panels or void my warranty?

The mesh clips to the panel frames, so there's no drilling into the panels. We'll review your warranty with you before any work.

Can you install guards on a system you didn't install?

Yes, on owned systems. If your system is leased, the company that owns your lease has to approve the work in writing first. We can help with that as well — just let us know who it is with.
